The concept of Mindfulness is at the root of all of the Mindful Awareness Therapies (MAT) and simply means to pay attention on purpose and non-judgmentally to whatever is happening in the present moment. The benefits of this ancient concept are many but the research based therapeutic applications are relatively new. Mindfulness based interventions have been studied extensively and are now recommended for stress, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, drug and alcohol addiction recovery, and others.
